Ex Equipment

Equipment to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres (Ex Equipment) is carefully regulated in most countries around the world. Equipment used in hazardous areas must be built so that they do not create sparks or heat that could ignite this environment.

Purpose

Ex Equipment testing and certification ensure that equipment to be used in potentially explosive atmospheres comply with relevant standards for safe design, operation and maintenance.​

Benefits

Certification is a requirement in most markets, and a necessary ticket-to-trade. Certification ensures that equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres is safe. Non-compliant products may cause injuries, product recalls, brand damage or loss of market shares. ​
ATEX Product Directive (94/9/EC) ​The ATEX (Atmosphere Explosible) Product Directive (94/9/EC) covers equipment and protective systems used on fixed offshore platforms, in petrochemical plants, mines, flour mills, and other areas where an explosive atmosphere may be present. IECEx International Certification Scheme
The IECEx is a global certification scheme for Ex equipment based on the International Electrotechnical Commission's International Standards. The IECEx provides a truly global framework for the independent assessment and certification of equipment and services associated with explosive atmospheres.
