There are three relevant AS standards for the aerospace industry in the AS9100:2009 series; AS9100, AS9110, AS9120.
All standards in the AS9100 series are based on the ISO 9001 Quality Management Systems standard. They build upon requirements to produce a globally harmonised standard that meet the requirements of aerospace companies worldwide.
Benefits of certification
Certification to the AS9100 series demonstrates the organisations ability to meet requirements and the needs of potential customers, resulting in enhanced customer confidence and satisfaction and a competitive advantage, as original equipment manufacturers (OEM) in the aerospace industry require AS9100 certification from suppliers and subcontractors.
Benefits for implementing Aviation Space and Defence AS9100C, AS9110C, AS9120A
- Focuses the organization upon the key requirements of the customer
- Focuses the organization upon the key characteristics of aerospace products and services
- Demonstrates the operation of globally accepted quality standards
- Increased opportunities and acceptance within the global aerospace supply-chain
- Improved product and process quality
- Reassignment of supplier resources to quality improvement
- Potential reduction in variation of quality
- Efficiency gains
- Compliance with a system supported by regulatory bodies
- Potential reduction in 2nd party system audits
- Excellent levels of traceability throughout the supply chain
- Common language to improve understanding of quality requirements
Certification promotes continual improvement and reduces and prevents errors, leading to cost savings

AS9100:2009 REV C
AS9100 is the quality systems aerospace model for quality assurance in design, development, production, installation and servicing.
AS9100 was developed using the ISO 9001 standard. It builds upon requirements to produce a globally harmonised standard that meets the requirements of aerospace companies worldwide.
AS9100 was the first standard available for use across the global aerospace community, adding the requirements necessary to address both civil and military aviation and aerospace needs.
AS9110:2009 REV C
AS9110 is the quality systems aerospace model for quality assurance in maintenance, repair and overhaul of aerospace parts.
In addition to being built using the ISO 9001 standard and the requirements of aerospace companies worldwide, the standard meets the enhanced regulatory requirements to which aerospace repair stations are subjected to.
AS9120:2009 REV A
AS9120 is the quality systems aerospace model for quality assurance in warehousing and distribution of aerospace parts.
In addition to being built using the ISO 9001 standard and the requirements of aerospace companies worldwide, the standard meets the enhanced regulatory requirements to which aerospace distributors are subjected to.
AS9120 is for use by organisations that procure parts, materials and assemblies and sells these products to customers in the aerospace industry. This includes organisations that procure products and split them into smaller quantities.
This standard is not intended for organisations that rework or repair products. Organisations that perform work that affect or could affect product characteristics or conformity shall use AS9100 or another quality management system standard.
