EMC directive requires that products:
- Do not contribute to electron interference to their surroundings that can affect other equipment. Interference can typically occur either in the form of radiated signals or noise over the signal or power cables.
- Should be robust against electromagnetic interference from other equipment located in the surroundings. Again, disturbances occur in the form of radiation or noise via signal or power cables.
In order to verify compliance with these requirements, the product will be tested in accordance with applicable international standards. Test results, together with other evidence base in order to declare conformity with the directive and CE mark product.
DNV is appointed by the Norwegian authorities’ notified body for the EMC Directive. In addition, our Test Center is accredited for the most important standards that are relevant to the Directive and can perform the necessary tests and assessments.

Note! A new edition of the EMC Directive (2004/108/EC) came into force on 20 July 2007, and new equipment being introduced on the market must from then on declare compliance with this edition. For products already on the market, there is a transitional arrangement that allows compliance with the previous version of the Directive (89/336/EEC) is still valid until 20 July 2009. After this, all equipment comply with the new directive.
