DNV Business Assurance now offers RSB certification worldwide. Certification to RSB certification communicates commitment to safe and sustainable production of biomass and biofuels, and proves that a product, during its complete production chain, contributes to significantly lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than fossil fuels.
“We are very pleased to include RSB certification of biomass and biofuels in our portfolio of sustainability services”, says Antonio Astone, Global Head of Sustainability Services in DNV Business Assurance. “RSB certification is an opportunity for companies involved in biomass and biofuels production to prove their commitment to responsible production, as well as securing a ticket to trade”, says Astone.
The RSB standard and certification system is recognised by the European Commission. The recognition implies that RSB certified operators and products are compliant with the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED) and thereby automatically granted access to the European market as sustainable biofuels/biomass.
To be certified, biofuels must demonstrate 50 % saving in GHG emissions compared to fossil fuels, as well as complying with a set of principles and criteria, including factors such as impact on soil, water and air and labour rights.
“Proving sustainability throughout the production chain is important in biofuels production in order to be able to offer your products on the market. We can provide guidance throughout the certification process, ensuring that certification also is a means for continual improvement", says Antonio Astone.
